Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy explains what information HealthyBite (“we,” “us,” or “our”) collects when you use the website and app at healthybite.app (the “Service”), how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have. By using the Service you agree to this policy. It should be read together with our Terms of Service.
Information we collect
Information you provide
- Dietary profile. The preferences, allergens, diet patterns, religious requirements, and free-text severe-allergy notes you enter to get matches.
- Account information. If you create an account, your email address and authentication data, handled through Google Firebase Authentication.
- User content. Favorites, safety-scorecard votes, written reviews, and any reports you submit.
- Subscription data. If you buy HealthyBite Premium, our payment partners process the billing data needed to manage your subscription (such as your plan, status, and a payment-provider identifier). We do not receive or store your full card number.
Information collected automatically
- Location. With your permission, your device location (or an address you type) is used to find nearby restaurants. See “Location data” below.
- Device and usage data. Standard technical information such as IP address, browser type, and pages viewed, used to operate, secure, and improve the Service.
- Cookies and similar technologies. Used for essential functionality, to remember your settings, and — through our advertising partner — to serve and measure ads. See “Cookies and advertising.”
How we use information
- To provide core features: matching restaurants and recipes to your dietary profile, saving favorites, and syncing your profile across devices.
- To operate, maintain, secure, and improve the Service.
- To process subscriptions and respond to your support requests.
- To display advertising that helps keep the Service free.
- To comply with legal obligations and enforce our Terms.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share your dietary profile, reviews, or account details with advertisers.
Cookies and advertising
The Service displays advertising provided by Google AdSense. To do this:
- Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this website and other websites.
- Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this Service and/or other sites on the Internet.
- Google and other third parties may also use web beacons, device identifiers, and IP addresses to collect information in the course of serving and measuring ads.
You may opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google's Ads settings. You can also opt out of some third-party vendors' use of cookies for personalized advertising at aboutads.info/choices. For more on how Google uses information from sites that use its services, see policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites and Google's advertising policies.
Where required by law (for example, for users in the European Economic Area, the UK, and Switzerland), we present a consent message and only use advertising and analytics cookies in line with the choices you make there.
Location data
If you grant location permission, your device location is used only to search for restaurants near you and is sent to our mapping and geocoding provider for that purpose. You can disable location access at any time in your device or browser settings; some features will not work without it. If you prefer not to share location, you can type an address or ZIP code instead.
How information is stored and shared
Guest data (your dietary profile when you are not signed in) is stored locally on your device. Account data is stored with our cloud provider, Google Firebase, to sync across your devices. We share information only with service providers that help us operate the Service — including mapping/geocoding, AI processing of menus and recipes, cloud hosting and database, advertising (Google), and payment processing — and only as needed for them to perform their functions, or where required by law.
Data retention and your choices
- You can clear your local data at any time from the app's Settings.
- You can delete your account and its synced profile from Settings, subject to limited retention required for legal, security, or fraud-prevention purposes.
- You can control ad personalization using the links in “Cookies and advertising.”
- Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, or delete your personal information, or to object to certain processing. To exercise these rights, email us (see “Contact”).
Children's privacy
The Service is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. We do not use personalized advertising to target users we know to be under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.
Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, however, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
International users
HealthyBite is operated from the United States. If you access the Service from outside the U.S., your information may be processed in the U.S. and other countries that may have different data-protection laws than your own.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the “Last updated” date above, and where appropriate provide additional notice. Your continued use of the Service after an update means you accept the revised policy.
