Accessibility
Accessibility statement
HealthyBite should work for everyone who needs to eat out with a dietary restriction, including people who use a screen reader, a keyboard, magnification or larger text.
Our target
We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA, on the website and in the apps.
Where we are today
HealthyBite partially conforms to WCAG 2.2 AA. That means some parts don’t yet fully meet the standard. What we do now:
- We measure text contrast in the app against the AA standard, in both light and dark mode.
- Tap targets in the app are at least 44 by 44 pixels.
- Dish marks use a symbol (✓, ⚠ or ✕) and words, not color alone.
- These information pages use headings and landmarks, work with a keyboard, include a “Skip to content” link, and fit a phone-width screen without sideways scrolling.
Known limitations
- Photos posted by diners may not have a text description.
- The map on a restaurant’s page is a picture of the area and is hard to use without sight. The restaurant’s address and distance are always shown as text, and the directions link opens your own maps app.
- Menus from restaurants’ websites, PDFs and menu photos come from third parties. When we read a menu, the dishes are shown as text, but the original files and photos may not be accessible.
- Some parts of the app have not yet been fully tested with screen readers.
Tell us about a barrier
If something in HealthyBite is hard or impossible for you to use, please tell us. Email Healthybiteapp@gmail.com with “Accessibility” in the subject. Tell us what you were trying to do, which page or screen, and the device and assistive technology you use, if you’re comfortable sharing it. We aim to reply within 5 business days, and we will try to give you the information you need another way while we work on a fix.
How we assessed this
