Data sources & licenses
HealthyBite is built on open data, outside services and open-source software. This page credits them and gives the licenses they are used under.
Data sources
OpenStreetMap
Most restaurant locations, names, opening hours and other place details come from OpenStreetMap, read through the public Overpass API.
Map data © OpenStreetMap contributors, available under the Open Database License (ODbL) 1.0.
Overture Maps Foundation
Restaurant websites, addresses and categories also come from the Places theme of Overture Maps Foundation data (the copy bundled with the app is release 2026-07-22.0). Overture Places data is licensed under the Community Data License Agreement – Permissive, Version 2.0 (CDLA-Permissive-2.0). Its sources include Meta, Microsoft, Foursquare and others.
Data from Foursquare is licensed under the Apache License, Version 2.0. Its NOTICE reads:

you may not use this file except in compliance with the License.

limitations under the License.
Geoapify
Address search, turning a location into an address, and some place search: Powered by Geoapify. Geoapify’s data includes OpenStreetMap data, © OpenStreetMap contributors.
Esri World Imagery
The satellite map on a restaurant’s page: Powered by Esri. Imagery © Esri, Maxar, Earthstar Geographics, and the GIS User Community.
Spoonacular
Ingredient data powered by Spoonacular. Used to look up the typical ingredients of a dish by its name.
Google Gemini and Google Search
Menus are read, and review summaries written, with Google’s Gemini AI. To find a restaurant’s menu, Gemini may use Google Search. AI-generated content is labeled in the app. Google, Gemini and Google Search are trademarks of Google LLC.
Wikimedia Commons and Wikidata
Some restaurant pictures, mostly chain logos and photos, come from Wikimedia Commons, found through Wikidata. Each image keeps its own license and author, which you can find on the image’s page on Wikimedia Commons. Wikidata’s structured data is available under CC0 1.0. Logos may be trademarks of their owners.
Restaurant websites
Menus are read from restaurants’ own websites, and some pictures come from those websites and other public pages. These menus and images belong to their owners. HealthyBite shows them to help diners choose where to eat, and does not claim them as its own. Owners can have them removed: see Copyright. Our menu reader is described on HealthyBiteBot.
Diners
Reviews, dishes and menu photos are posted by HealthyBite users, who keep ownership of them under our Terms of Service.
