Community Guidelines
Reviews, dishes and photos on HealthyBite help people with allergies and dietary needs decide where to eat. Other diners rely on them, so they have to be honest and first-hand.
These guidelines apply to everything you post: reviews, ratings, scorecard answers, dishes you add, photos and your public name. They are part of our Terms of Service.
What belongs here
- Your own experience. What you ordered, how the staff handled your request, and how it went for you.
- Honest opinions, good or bad. A negative review is welcome if it is genuine.
- Accurate menu details: dishes you saw on the menu, and photos of the menu you took yourself.
What’s not allowed
- Hate and harassment. No attacks on people for who they are, and no bullying, threats or encouraging violence.
- Sexual content, and any content involving minors in a sexual or exploitative way. See child safety.
- Personal information. No names, phone numbers, addresses or other details of staff or other diners.
- People in photos. Photos must not show anyone’s face or any other person. Photograph the food, the menu or the place.
- Fake reviews. No reviews of places you haven’t visited, reviews you were paid or given anything for, reviews of your own restaurant or one you work for, and no reviews of a competitor. No reviews written for someone else, and no buying, selling or swapping reviews. US law (the FTC’s rule on fake reviews, 16 CFR Part 465) bans these too.
- Spam, ads and links to sell things.
- Other people’s work. Don’t post photos or text you don’t have the right to share. See Copyright.
- Medical claims presented as fact. Say what happened to you (“I had a reaction after the curry”), not a verdict about the restaurant stated as fact (“this curry contains peanuts” when you don’t know). Never tell people a dish is safe for their allergy.
- Impersonation. Don’t pretend to be someone else, including in your public name. Public names may not contain email addresses, links or phone numbers.
- Illegal content of any kind.
How we moderate
We review what is reported to us, and we may also find problems ourselves. We decide on the content and these guidelines alone. Moderation never depends on whether a review is positive or negative, and we don’t remove honest negative reviews because a restaurant asks.
How to report
- In the app: use the Report option on the review, photo, dish or review summary. Choose a reason and add a note if it helps. Your report doesn’t include your name or email.
- By email: write to Healthybiteapp@gmail.com with the restaurant, what you are reporting, and why.
We aim to review reports within 2 business days. Reports about child safety go to the front of the queue.
How to block someone
Use the Block option on a review, dish or photo in the app. You will no longer see that person’s reviews, dishes or menu photos. They aren’t told. Your blocked list is saved on your device and, if you are signed in, with your account.
What happens when we act
- We may remove the content, or reset a public name that breaks these guidelines.
- For repeated or serious breaches, we may suspend or close the account.
- Where we can, we tell the person why and give them a chance to respond. If you think we got it wrong, reply to us or email us and we will look again.
- We report illegal content to the authorities where the law requires it.
For restaurants: disputing a review or a mark
- A review that breaks these guidelines, for example one that is fake, written by a competitor, or names a member of staff: report it in the app or email us with the restaurant and the review. We’ll review it under these guidelines. We don’t remove honest reviews, including negative ones.
- A dish mark or menu that is wrong: email us with the restaurant and the dish, and what the dish really contains. Marks are estimates made from your published menu, so the fastest fix is often a clearer menu description. We correct specific errors when we can.
- Your menu, photos or images: if you want them removed, see Copyright. We honor these requests.
Child safety
We have zero tolerance for child sexual abuse material and for any content that sexualizes or exploits children. We remove it, close the account, and report it to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children’s CyberTipline, as US law requires. We preserve the material and related account information as the law requires. If you see anything like this, report it in the app with the reason “child safety”, or email us with “Child safety” in the subject. Please don’t share or download it.
Intimate images shared without consent
If an intimate image of you, or of someone you represent, was posted without consent, email Healthybiteapp@gmail.com with where it appears. We remove such images within 48 hours of a valid request and make reasonable efforts to remove copies.
